54-year-old Moncrieff man will face the ACT Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday, 15 February 2024) charged in relation to a robbery in Gungahlin.

About 1.35pm yesterday (Wednesday, 14 February), a woman was attempting to deposit a sum of cash into an ATM at a bank in the Gungahlin Marketplace.

Police allege about this time, the man has snatched the money from the woman and ran from the bank.

The man was subsequently stopped from fleeing by a member of the public before the victim caught up with the man and allegedly took back her money before the man fled the area.

Police attended and viewed CCTV footage from Gungahlin Marketplace, which enabled them to identify the alleged offender.

The man was subsequently arrested about 11.50pm Wednesday, 14 February in Lyneham.

He has been charged with four offences – robbery, prevent carrying out forensic procedure, and two counts of possess knife without reasonable excuse. Further charges are also expected.

Police would like to speak to the woman who intervened to prevent the man from fleeing the scene of the alleged incident, as well as any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.
