Unlicensed, repeat drink driver with an overhanging load to face Court

Facing court

A 52-year-old Griffith man will face Court after he was caught unlicensed, drink driving with an overhanging load last night (Tuesday, 8 August 2017).

Around 11.10pm last night, City Station members were patrolling Campbell when they observed three utes travelling in a convoy on Fairbairn Avenue, one of which was carrying a large metal frame on its roof.

Police activated their emergency lights and the vehicle was safely stopped. The frame was measured to be 5.5m wide at the rear, 3.8m wide at the front and 6.5m long and was being transported without a permit.

The driver was determined to be unlicensed and underwent a roadside breath test returning a positive result. He was conveyed to the City Police Station where a breath analysis was conducted, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.133. As an unlicensed driver, the man was subject to a blood alcohol limit of 0.00.

The 52-year-old man was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice and will be summonsed to face Court at a later date where he will be charged with drink driving, driving unlicensed and driving a vehicle with an overhanging load. If convicted, the man will be a repeat drink driving offender.
