Two more licences suspended overnight

Two drivers have lost their licences overnight under new legislation targeting high range speeding on ACT roads.  

About 6.10pm last night (Wednesday, 12 July 2023) a white Subaru WRX and a blue Holden Commodore were observed by police to accelerate heavily from traffic lights at the intersection of Wells Station Road onto Gungahlin Drive. Both cars were side by side and were recorded driving at 128km/h in the posted 80km/h zone.  

Both cars were pulled over by police and the licences of a 17-year-old Calwell boy and a 27-year-old Palmerston man were immediately suspended for 90 days.  

The Holden Commodore was also seized by police. 

ACT Policing is urging drivers to stick to the speed limit as speeding is one of the ‘Fatal Five’ contributors to road deaths. Officers will not hesitate to use new legislation to immediately suspend licences and seize vehicles when they observe motorists driving at excessive speeds on ACT roads.
