Two men to face court on stolen vehicle charges and traffic offences

Facing court

Two men were arrested on Friday night (31 January 2020) following reports of suspicious activities near Uriarra.

About 8.30pm police responded to a report that two men had parked a white Ford Focus near a shed on a Paddy’s River Road property and were acting suspiciously.

Shortly afterwards, further reports were received that the same vehicle was doing burnouts in Uriarra village.

Police located the vehicle about 8.55pm in the Cotter Bend camp ground. It will be alleged one of the men drove at police in an attempt to escape.

A short time later, a white Nissan Patrol was reported stolen from a Cotter Road residence.

About 9.45 pm police located the Nissan near the Cotter Road, where it had been involved in a collision, possibly with the Ford.

The two men were found nearby, and taken to hospital for examination.

One man was arrested at hospital, the other was taken to the ACT Regional Watch House and charged.

A 28-year-old Charnwood man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent and breach of good behaviour obligations.

A 29-year-old Queanbeyan man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (3 February) on charges including driving motor vehicles without consent, driving while disqualified, resisting arrest, damaging property and breach of good behaviour obligations.
