Three recidivist teens arrested for crime spree

Three teenagers have been arrested after a series of burglaries, payWave offences and dangerous driving behaviours throughout Canberra.

Earlier this week (Tuesday, 26 September 2023) ACT Policing received reports of two residential burglaries and one commercial burglary in which credit cards, a silver Hyundai i20, a blue Isuzu ute and a white Hyundai Tucsan were stolen.

These credit cards were used in payWave offences throughout Canberra and the vehicles failed to stop for police the following day.

After ongoing investigations from the Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team, Operation TORIC and general duties officers, members were able to locate the suspected teens at a residence in the Belconnen area.

Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, 27 September 2023), about 2.30pm, two 14-year-old boys were arrested for their involvement, which put them in breach of existing bail conditions. One of these boys has also been charged with possessing stolen property.

A 17-year-old boy was also arrested for payWave and vehicle offences. He was on bail and in breach of a good behaviour order at the time of his arrest.

Investigations are continuing into these offences and other similar offences throughout Canberra.

All three boys are expected to face the ACT Childrens Court today.

Police urge anyone who may have information that may help in the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
