Arrested for drug trafficking

A 27-year-old McKellar man, a 32-year-old Crace man and a 28-year-old Wright man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Friday 15 December), in relation to drug trafficking.

In April 2017, detectives from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations commenced Operation Tribulation, an investigation into the importation and trafficking of controlled drugs in the ACT.

Between Tuesday 5 December and Thursday 14 December 2017, investigators conducted significant operational activity, executing numerous search warrants around Canberra.

During these warrants, police located and seized a firearm, over $31,000 of Australian currency, approximately 1.3 kilograms of a substance suspected to be dibutylone, 39 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, and a small quantity of MDMA.

Yesterday (Thursday 14 December), detectives arrested the three men.

The men will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday 15 December) charged with various offences including knowingly concerned traffic in controlled drug other than cannabis, attempt destroy or conceal evidence, attempt possess drug of dependence and pervert the course of justice.

Investigations are ongoing with further charges expected to be laid.

Superintendent of Criminal Investigations, Scott Moller said that ACT Policing is committed to preventing the supply of illicit drugs into the Canberra community.

“ACT Policing has zero tolerance towards the supply of illicit drugs. Our message is simple, if you are a manufacturer, distributor or trafficker of illicit drugs, we are targeting you, knocking on your door, seizing your assets and putting you before court.”
