Teens to face court over Charnwood aggravated robbery

Charged with robbery

A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy who were both on bail for other offences will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Monday, 9 October 2023) charged in relation to an aggravated robbery in Charnwood.  

Police allege the pair, both from the Belconnen region, attended a newsagent at the Charnwood shops about 4pm on Saturday (7 October 2023) brandishing a knife and an axe and threatened staff.  

The teens subsequently fled the scene on foot with a sum of cash. No one was physically injured during the robbery.  

Officers attached to Operation TORIC and Gungahlin Station responded and the pair were arrested a short time later following a foot pursuit.  

The 14-year-old has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery, theft and breach of bail. He will also face burglary charges in relation to a home burglary that occurred in September in Flynn.  

The 15-year-old has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery and breach of bail.  

Anyone who witnessed this incident who has not yet spoken to police is urged to come forward.  

Police also ask that people who live near the Charnwood shops check their properties for items, such as clothing or weapons, that could be related to the robbery.
