ACT Policing’s Taskforce Nemesis detectives are investigating a suspected Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) related incident that occurred in Chifley this morning (Monday, 19 March 2018).

About 6:30am police received calls reporting that shots had been fired in Maclaurin Crescent, and subsequent calls that a man with gunshot wounds had sought help in the nearby service station on the corner of Melrose Drive and Botany Street.

A man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds was transported to The Canberra Hospital by the ACT Ambulance Service.

ACT Policing attended and identified damage to several vehicles and other property at the location of the shooting.

AFP Forensic Services are conducting examinations at the scene where the shots were fired and the service station.

Acting Superintendent of Criminal Investigations Shane Scott said violent acts such as this will not be tolerated in the ACT.

“This was a brazen targeted shooting which resulted in injuries to a person and damaged surrounding property”

“Any incident that involves firearms raises risk to the safety of the wider community.”

“Taskforce Nemesis, and all ACT Policing officers will continue working to prevent and disrupt the activities of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs and their members,” Acting Superintendent Scott said.

Motorists with dash-cams who were driving in the area, including along Melrose Drive, at the time are asked to check their footage for any suspicious activity.

ACT Policing is urging anyone who saw any suspicious activity in Chifley or Phillip around 6:30am this morning, or who have any information or CCTV that could assist police, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website.
