Police warning to motorists in snowy conditions

Police Car

Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution on the roads following a number of snow related incidents.

Multiple cars have required the assistance of emergency services near Piccadilly Circus in the Brindabellas as drivers struggle to control their vehicles in the unusually snowy conditions.

Please reconsider your plans to travel to this area.

Police would like to remind motorists that while seeing snow in person can be a fun experience, driving in snowy conditions can be dangerous even for experienced drivers.

When you head into the snow ill equipped you put yourself and other road users at risk while putting undue pressure on emergency services.

If you are returning from a snowy area you must ensure your vehicle is free of snow and ice.  It is an offence to drive without visibility.

Drivers should also be aware of black ice which can form on clear and cold days following a day of rain as surplus moisture on the roads freezes over.

Visit the ACT Policing website for more information on driving to the conditions.
