Police urge drivers to take responsibility for their actions on the roads
ACT Policing is urging drivers to make smart choices and take responsibility for their actions on the roads following a single vehicle collision in Kambah on Thursday (9 November, 2023).
About 10.10pm, ACT Policing responded to a single vehicle collision on Marconi Crescent, Kambah.
A Skoda Kodiaq station wagon had failed to negotiate a T-intersection, where it is alleged a combination of alcohol intoxication and inappropriate speed by the driver, caused the vehicle to mount the kerb and strike a tree.
The driver, a 33-year-old man from Kambah, was breath tested at the scene, later returning a breath analysis reading of 0.125 - about two and a half times the legal limit.
While the driver was not injured in the collision, the vehicle suffered significant damage.
The man was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive for 90 days and he has also been charged with drink driving and reckless driving. He is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court in March, 2024.
Officer in Charge of ACT Road Policing, Acting Inspector Mark Richardson, reminded drivers of their responsibility when they get behind a wheel.
“While we want everyone to have an enjoyable summer season, our priority is ensuring it is also a safe summer season,” Acting Inspector Richardson said.
“The summer months see an increase in parties and end of year celebrations, which tends to come hand in hand with an increase in impaired driving on our roads.
“If you drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs, you significantly increase the risk of causing a collision, putting both yourself and other road users in danger.
“We implore drivers this summer season to plan ahead, if you are drinking, don’t drive. Have alternate arrangements in place to safely get home.
“Please consider the impact your decision making may have, not only on yourself, but on your loved ones, and other road users wanting to get home safely.”
