ACT Policing was generally happy with the behaviour of patrons at events in Canberra city last night.

Police estimated over 20,000 patrons were in the city, with a high visibility police presence maintained across the evening.

A key aspect for ACT Policing was enforcing alcohol free zones and focusing on alcohol related violence.

Overnight, 15 people were lodged through the ACT Watch House with the majority held for their own safety due to their level of intoxication. A small number were charged with minor offences including assault.

Police also apprehended 13 young people who were taken to the dedicated Youth Reception Centre. All were referred for alcohol diversions and released into the custody of parents or carers.

Two drones operating within the declared no-fly-zone were identified, with their operators located. Information regarding the incidents will be referred to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for further consideration.

Canberrans are also reminded to consider their alcohol intake from last night before driving today. It is not unusual for a person to still be under the influence of alcohol hours after consuming their last drink.
