Pleasing results from Kings Highway safety operation

Yesterday (17 December, 2018) ACT Policing officers and ACT Road Transport Authority staff conducted a targeted road safety operation on the Kings Highway.

More than 400 motorists were subjected to roadside random breath or drug testing by police, and dozens of vehicle inspections were conducted by RTA staff.

While a number of minor vehicle defect notices were issued, ACT Policing’s Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, Acting Station Sergeant David Wills said he was pleased that no drivers had returned positive drug or alcohol test results.

“It’s encouraging that over 400 drivers were tested and none of them were impaired by drugs or alcohol,” Acting Station Sergeant Wills said.

“Even more pleasing is that this was on the Kings Highway, which is a particularly busy road as Canberrans get set for their summer holidays.

“We will continue to have a highly visible presence on the Territory’s roads, including the Kings Highway over the holiday period, and I would like to remind all drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before any journey, to drive to the conditions and remember to take regular rest breaks.”
