OMCG firearms incident in Isabella Plains; Taskforce Nemesis investigating

OMCG member to face Court following seizure of drugs, firearms, ammunition and explosives

Taskforce Nemesis has commenced an investigation after a house in Isabella Plains, linked to an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang member was shot at early this morning (Tuesday, 18 July 2017).

Around 1:00am police were called to a house in Ellerston Avenue, Isabella Plains following reports of possible gun shots in the area. A further report informed police that the house was on fire.

Police arrived at the house and located a 9kg liquid petroleum gas cylinder that had been used to start a fire and observed damage to the front of the house.  ACT Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire.

Information obtained by police indicates that two men were seen at the location, driving a small silver hatchback car. Both men are believed to have fired shots into the house, using a shotgun and a handgun.

Police have obtained a partial description of one man who can be described as Caucasian with a medium build.  At the time he was wearing a light coloured top and blue jeans.

AFP Forensic Services are currently examining the scene.

Detective Superintendent of Criminal Investigations Ben Cartwright said that this is the third firearms incident this month.

“Taskforce Nemesis, backed up by every ACT Policing officer will continue to focus on serious and organised crime and the activities of OMCG’s. Taskforce Nemesis continues to be successful in investigating serious and organised crime and have in the last month arrested, extradited and seized the assets of a senior OMCG member."

“There are also current OMCG members serving custodial sentences for similar drive-by shooting acts, with others in custody awaiting trial for their alleged serious criminal conduct, including firearm offences. However, clearly there is more to be done."

“Events such as those seen over the last month highlight the need for new and different approaches. ACT Policing will continue discussions with the ACT Government regarding legislative reform, such as tougher firearms laws and powers that will overcome the need for cooperation from those who don’t wish to assist police,” Detective Superintendent Cartwright said.

ACT Policing is urging anyone with information about the incident, or saw any suspicious activity in Ellerston Avenue around 1:00am last night to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444.  Information can also be provided anonymously via ACT Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
