Man facing court for assaulting police officer

ACT Policing has arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a police officer in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, 9 September).

At around 3.30am officers from City Police Station’s Regional Targeting Team attempted to take an 18-year-old man into protective custody.

The man became aggressive and punched a police officer in the face several times with a closed fist before being restrained.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and obstruct/resist territory public official.

The police officer received swelling and bruising to his face but did not require medical treatment.
