A 48-year-old Forde man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 6 February 2020) charged with obtaining property by deception.

In early 2019, ACT Policing received a complaint from the Gungahlin United Football Club (GUFC) in relation to the alleged theft of funds from the club’s bank account.

Over the past 18 months, club officials have assisted police with their investigation.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 5 February 2020) police executed search warrants and arrested the man who was formerly associated with GUFC.

The man will face court on 109 counts of obtaining property by deception exceeding $112,000. Police believe the man acted alone.

ACT Policing will continue to work closely with Gungahlin United Football Club officials to ensure this matter is thoroughly investigated. Further charges are expected to be laid.
