A 19-year-old Richardson man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday, 15 May 2018) for multiple driving offences.

About 12.30am today, ACT Policing members from Tuggeranong station were conducting mobile patrols in Richardson, when a car failed to stop after the officers activated their emergency lights.

The vehicle headed into the southern end of Chauncy Crescent, police went to the northern end of the street where they deployed a tyre deflation device in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle mounted the kerb to avoid the tyre deflation device and the police vehicle.

Shortly afterwards, the vehicle came to a stop in Rohan Street, Richardson where the driver attempted to flee on foot while his passenger was detained.

When the driver returned to his vehicle, he was arrested.

Further checks on the vehicle revealed it was unregistered, with the number plates of a different vehicle attached.

The man was subsequently charged with failing to stop for police, reckless driving, driving having never held a licence, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and using a vehicle without the required number plates attached.
