Man to face court for attempted murder

A 32-year-old Calwell man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 2 May 2019), charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a building.

About 10:00pm Saturday 2 March 2019, police received reports shots had been fired in the vicinity of Freda Gibson Circuit, Theodore. Police also received information that a man with a gunshot wound had sought help at a nearby location.

A man with non-life threatening injuries was treated and transported to hospital by ACT Ambulance Service.

In Freda Gibson Circuit, Police identified two homes with damage believed to have been caused by stray bullets.

On Friday 8 March 2019, a search warrant was executed at a business address in Fyshwick. Police seized ammunition, explosives and a bolt from a rifle. Investigators believe these items are linked to the incident on 2 March 2019.

On Thursday 18 April 2019, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Calwell. Police seized a .3030 calibre lever action rifle believed to be used in the shooting on 2 March 2019.  Ammunition and an amount of Methylamphetamine were also seized.

About 8.00pm yesterday (Wednesday, 1 May 2019), Detectives from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations arrested the 32-year-old man in relation to the shooting.

The man was charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a building. He is scheduled to appear in court today where bail will be opposed.
