Man to face court for animal cruelty and weapon offences

A 37-year-old man Kambah man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 15 April 2018), following an alleged act of animal cruelty.

About 11pm on Saturday (14 April 2018), police received a call about a disturbance outside a residence.

On arrival, police were advised a man had stolen an acquaintance’s dogs and had harmed one of them.

The owner of the dogs confronted the man, who pointed a firearm at him and another person. The man made demands for a sum of money to release the animals. The animals were released and returned to the owner. 

The man was charged with cruelty to animals and three counts of use offensive weapon – dangerous to a person.
