Man charged following thefts from bar patrons

ACT Policing would like to remind the public to secure their valuables and remain vigilant after a man was charged with multiple counts of theft following incidents in the City in the early hours of Sunday (10 September 2023). 

About 12.50am on Sunday morning, a man was observed attempting to access patrons bags inside a City bar. Shortly after that, a patron reported that their bank card had been stolen and an unauthorised transaction had been made. 

The man then attended several City bars between the hours of 1am and 1.30am where he allegedly stole at least two further bank cards. 

The man was arrested and charged with four counts of unlawful possession of stolen property and single counts of obtain financial advantage by deception and minor theft. He is expected to face charges in relation to a number of similar offences committed in April 2022 where he was identified to allegedly be doing the same thing. 

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the City that witnessed or experienced any theft in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

ACT Policing reminds people to secure their valuables including phones, bank cards and cash when on a night out. These offenders are opportunistic and securing items greatly reduces your chances of falling victim to this crime type.
