Man changed with family violence offences

A 25-year-old man who had previously received bail for family violence offences was arrested and charged yesterday (Thursday, 11 May 2023) for additional offences.

Last Friday (5 May 2023) the 25-year-old man returned to his residence after the curfew set in his bail conditions. When questioned by a family member, he allegedly became violent, causing injuries to a family member. The man then left the residence and was unable to be located for several days.

Police attended a residence in Weetangera yesterday (Thursday, 11 May 2023) after receiving information that the 25-year-old man may be located there.

After significant negotiations lasting more than two hours, police gained access to the residence and located the man hiding under a bed.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with family violence offences including recklessly inflict actual bodily harm, assault and breach of bail. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, 12 May 2023).
