Lyneham man to face multiple drug trafficking charges

Charged drug trafficking

A Lyneham man will face court today after significant quantities of drugs and weapons were located in his home yesterday.

Yesterday, (Wednesday, 10 July 2024) ACT Policing executed a search warrant at a residence in Lyneham.  In the residence, police allegedly located:

  • approximately 77kg of methylamine (a controlled precursor used in the manufacture of methylamphetamine and MDMA;
  • approximately 1.3 kilograms of MDMA;
  • approximately 270 grams of ketamine;
  • approximately 150 grams of methylamphetamine;
  • approximately 75 grams of cocaine;
  • approximately 5.7 kilograms of cannabis;
  • three prohibited weapons; and,
  • two encrypted communication devices.

While the search warrant was being executed, the 24-year-old resident returned home and he was subsequently arrested.

He was later charged with four counts of trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, trafficking in a trafficable quantity of cannabis and three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 11 July 2024).

This was the second successful apprehension this week, after the resolution of a joint investigation with NSW Police State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad and Lake Illawarra Police District, which saw the arrest and extradition of a man to NSW on Tuesday.

Detective acting Superintendent Stephen Ladd said that this arrest and the wider operation is an example of the close working relationship between NSW Police and ACT Policing.

“We have been working with our NSW colleagues on this investigation since April this year and this week’s results are a testament to that close working relationship,” said Detective acting Superintendent Ladd.

“It is clear this group thought they could fly under the radar by basing some of their activities here in the ACT. This operation should be a wake-up call for anyone thinking they can conduct this type of criminal activity here – you are facing the combined resources of multiple law enforcement bodies.”
