Have fun and be safe at events in Canberra this Saturday

UPDATE

ACT Policing is asking Canberrans to plan ahead and be safe on the roads surrounding events across the capital tomorrow.

Roads are expected to be busy with thousands of people expected to attend major events including the Yes Fest Marriage Equality Party in Braddon, Spilt Milk at Commonwealth Park and the Anthems concert at the National Arboretum.

Superintendent Jason Kennedy is asking people to consider how they will get to and from these events, and to remain safe during the evening.

“Please plan ahead in getting to and from your event. Traffic will be congested and we want to ensure everyone gets to the event and home safely,” Superintendent Kennedy said.

“As always with these events, our first priority is community safety. Patrons are reminded to know their limits when drinking alcohol and if you are drinking – don’t drive.”

“Do not bring drugs, buy drugs or consume drugs at these events. We want every participant to enjoy their evening, and do so without putting themselves at risk by taking illicit drugs. Not only is it illegal, it’s potentially deadly.”

“Police will maintain a high visibility presence at each event targeting antisocial behaviour, as well as conducting drink and drug driving testing.”

The areas surrounding Commonwealth Park, Acton Peninsula and around Civic Pool are alcohol free zones for the duration of Spilt Milk, and a fine of $110 may apply if you consume alcohol in these zones.

For people travelling to Spilt Milk, be aware there are no drop-offs permitted on Commonwealth Avenue. Police will be patrolling and fines for disobeying the no stopping zone will apply which carries a penalty of $270.

If you are going to be dropped-off please use the Civic Pool carpark off Constitution Avenue, or there is a public drop-off location on Barrine Drive on the western side of Commonwealth Avenue.  For other transport options to and from Spilt Milk, including public transport services, go to the following websites:
