A 28-year-old Griffith, ACT man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with several serious offences.

ACT Policing executed a search warrant at a residence in Griffith yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 2 April 2019) following an investigation arising from information supplied to the National Security Hotline.

The man was arrested at the residence and subsequently charged with possessing an object to be used to kill or inflict grievous bodily harm (GBH), threatening to act with intent to cause public harm and using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend.

He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates court today (Wednesday, 3 April 2019) where bail will be opposed.

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said there was no information to suggest the man was acting with others or in a group, though we will pursue all possible avenues of enquiry from here.

“ACT Criminal Investigators work tirelessly to keep the community safe and will always act quickly to disrupt any activity or individual we think is a risk,” Superintendent Moller said.

“The local community should feel safe knowing we and our partners are working together to investigate all individuals who come to our attention. In this case I would like to reassure everyone we have not identified a specific target, and there does not appear to be any ongoing threat to the community.

“It is also a timely reminder to the Canberra community - if you see or hear something suspicious or something that doesn’t seem right, contact the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400.”
