Female arrested for drink driving and speeding offences

Drink Driving

A 30-year-old woman will face court for drink driving and other offences after she was apprehended over the weekend (Saturday, 31 March 2018).

About 10.00pm, ACT Policing detected a vehicle driven by the woman, travelling at 149km/h in the sign posted 80km/h zone on Horse Park Drive, Kenny.

After speaking with the driver, police ascertained she was the holder of an ACT Probationary licence with a requirement to use an interlock device, which was not fitted to the vehicle she was driving. The vehicle was not registered to the driver.

The driver provided police with a sample of breath, returning a positive reading of almost three times the legal limit of a full licence holder.

As a Probationary licence holder, the driver is required to have a blood alcohol concentration of zero.

The driver was taken to the Gungahlin Police Station and later released from custody.

The driver will be summonsed to attend court at a later date for the following offences, Exceed speed greater than 45km/h, Repeat special driver PCA level 3, and Contravene interlock condition.

ACT Policing prioritises a Vision Zero approach to road safety, as part of the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020.
