Drivers and passengers arrested in overnight incidents

Charged with multiple offences

ACT Policing officers arrested two drivers and two passengers following two serious incidents overnight.

About 3.10am this morning (Saturday, 17 June 2023) City Patrol and Territory Targeting Team officers engaged an allegedly stolen Nissan Tiida on Northbourne Avenue.

The driver failed to stop for police and proceeded to drive through Braddon, Reid and Campbell while being pursued.

On Parkes Way, the driver allegedly drove at police as they were attempting to deploy stop-sticks.

Shortly after, the car failed to negotiate a roundabout on Anzac Parade, collided with a kerb and three people ran off.

All were quickly arrested with the 20-year-old male driver from Narrabundah facing 11 charges including breach of bail, breach of a good behaviour order, drive at police, fail to stop for police, drive a motor vehicle without consent, drive without a licence and multiple traffic offences.

A 21-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man who were passengers in the Nissan were each charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent.

Earlier in the evening police were called to the Monaro Highway following reports of a Toyota Camry with no lights on, driving erratically on the wrong side of the road.

About 7.00pm (Friday, 16 June 2023) police attended the Monaro Highway and located the Camry stopped in the southbound lanes of the highway with witnesses engaging the driver.

He was subsequently arrested, however he allegedly refused to undergo an alcohol screening test.

The 36-year-old Conder man was later charged with reckless driving, drive under the influence of alcohol and refuse to undergo a screening test.

All four people are scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday 17 June 2023).

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed either incident (who has not already spoken to police) or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of either incident overnight.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
