Driver on Nepalese licence charged with drink driving
A 26-year-old Amaroo man will face the ACT Magistrates Court in the coming weeks after being caught drink driving while on a non-recognised international licence.
About 9.55am on Friday, 22 September 2023, police conducted a traffic stop on a Holden Commodore sedan on Drakeford Drive, Kambah, during which the man provided police with his Nepalese drivers' licence.
The man underwent a breath screening test which was positive. He was subsequently transported to Tuggeranong Police Station, where he returned a breath analysis of 0.127 grams of alcohol per 210 L of breath.
As Nepal is a non-recognised country for licencing purposes in the ACT, the man was subject to a zero blood-alcohol-limit (0.00).
He was issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.
Information relating to requirements to drive on a foreign licence in the ACT can be found on the Access Canberra website.
