ACT Policing respond to suspicious package in Hackett

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after responding to a report of a suspicious package at a residence in Hackett tonight (Sunday August 5, 2018).

About 4.20pm police received a report from two Hackett residents that they had found a suspicious package when they entered their home.

ACT Policing General Duties members evacuated the premises and several neighbouring properties, and placed a cordon around the area while the Specialist Response Group (SRG) Bomb Response Team attended to evaluate the situation.

Shortly after 9pm, the package was rendered safe and residents who were evacuated were allowed to return to their homes. The package will be the subject of examination and analysis by AFP Forensics.

Police would like to thank residents for their cooperation and understanding.

ACT Policing is urging anyone who has any information that could assist police, including CCTV or dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Police would also urge anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Tryon, Burrell or MacKenzie Streets, Hackett in the past seven days to report it.
