Woman to face court on 12 driving charges
A 26-year-old Chifley woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 21 April 2020) on 12 charges including two counts of aggravated dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving having never held a licence.
On Wednesday, 15 April 2020, ACT Policing Traffic Operations officers pulled up alongside a stolen Red Holden Barina in Downer. Police directed the woman driving the car to pull over.
Police will allege the driver ran a red light and drove at dangerous speeds along Phillip Avenue, Federal Highway, and Northbourne Avenue towards Canberra City.
Yesterday, the woman was approached by officers on foot patrol in Belconnen. Police will allege the woman fled, and drove away in the same stolen red Holden Barina, fitted with different number plates to those displayed when it was involved in the incident on 15 April.
The Barina was subsequently observed by police driving at dangerous speeds from Belconnen to O’Connor, and continued to avoid police attempts to stop. The Barina ran a red light and collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Macarthur Avenue and Wattle Street. The woman fled the scene on foot.
Assistance from members of the community led to the woman being arrested in McGowan Place, Dickson a short time later.
The woman will face court on 12 charges:
- Two counts of driving a motor vehicle without consent
- Two counts of unlicenced driving having never held a licence and a further count of unlicenced driving.
- Two counts of failing to stop for police
- Two counts of aggravated dangerous driving
- Drug Driving
- Not giving particulars after a crash
- Number plate not properly issued
