Violent home intruder arrested

ACT Policing has arrested a man following a number of home invasions on the south side this week.

About 12.20am Saturday morning (18 July 2015) a man with two screwdrivers forced entry to a residence on Gouger Street, Torrens, confronting a 58-year-old resident before stealing a blue Honda Jazz. Another stolen motor vehicle, a White Nissan Micra, was left at the location.

About 1.30am police were alerted to a second robbery with reports a man had kicked in the front door of a residence on Liest Street, Weston. The offender confronted a 62-year-old resident, this time wielding a knife, resulting in the resident suffering a cut to his right wrist. The man fled after stealing cash from a wallet.

The blue Honda Jazz was later found abandoned on Lascelles Circuit in Kambah.

A 20-year-old Kambah suspect was identified who police believe was also involved in two incidents on 16 July 2015. One on Gallagher Street, Kambah where a white Nissan Micra was stolen, and a home invasion at Westgarth Street, O’Connor where the front door was kicked in and a man confronted a 55-year-old woman before stealing her handbag.

About 3.30pm on Saturday (18 July 2015), detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on McKenzie Street, Kambah, locating the suspect and property directly linked to the burglaries at Gallagher St Kambah and Westgarth Street, O’Connor.

The man was arrested and will be charged with burglary and aggravated burglary offences.

The suspect is currently in breach of bail in NSW for burglary and theft related offences and will remain in custody and bail will be opposed in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday 20 July 2015.
