Two men to face multiple vehicle and theft charges

Two men will face court today following their arrest early on Sunday morning (11 August 2019).

Officers from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations team have proactively targeted recent aggravated burglary incidents involving stolen vehicles being used to force entry to businesses.

On Saturday night an attempted burglary occurred at the Deakin Newsagency, followed soon after by an aggravated burglary at the Lyneham Newsagency.

Investigations led officers to a vehicle parked in Braddon and shortly after a 22-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

The 33-year-old has been charged with going equipped for theft, attempt burglary, burglary and theft.

The 22-year-old has been charged with drive while disqualified, drive under the influence of drugs, drive an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, possession of stolen property and breach of good behaviour order.

Investigations into the two weekend incidents are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid.

The men are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 12 August 2019) where bail will be opposed.
