Three men arrested selling stolen property

A 30-year-old Holt man and a 23-year-old Turner man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after being apprehended with stolen property yesterday afternoon (Monday, 12 June 2017).

Around 2:20pm, ACT Policing General Duties officers from Woden Station attended Cash Converters in Woden after reports that three men had entered the store attempting to sell a number of tools.  During the transaction, the 30-year-old man showed staff a police badge and identified himself as a police officer.

A short time later the tools were identified as stolen by staff at Cash Converters.  The tools were stolen from a car in Franklin over the weekend (11-12 June 2017).

Police arrived at the store and arrested the three men.  Two of the men escaped custody after being arrested.  The 23-year-old man was caught after a short foot pursuit.

The 30-year-old man fled to a nearby car and locked himself inside, requesting the female driver to drive away.  Officers were forced to smash the car window to take the man into custody.

The car had earlier been involved in a fail to stop along the Tuggeranong Parkway.  The driver, a 46-year-old woman from Melba was arrested and conveyed to Woden Police Station.  The car, a blue Ford Laser was seized by police. 

The 30-year-old Holt man has been charged with impersonating a territory public official, attempting to obtain financial advantage by deception, unlawful possession of stolen property and escape custody.

The 23-year-old Turner man has been charged with escape custody, attempting to obtain financial advantage by deception and unlawful possession of stolen property.  The man also had a first instance warrant for his arrest.

The third man, a 30-year-old from Holt will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

The 46-year-old Melba woman will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to the fail to stop and other traffic offences.
