Police are reminding drivers that while Summernats is a great place to show off their automotive pride and joy to obey road rules outside the event.

ACT Policing Operational Commander for Summernats, Station Sergeant Adrian Craft said with decreased visibility due to smoke across the ACT people needed to take care and drive to the conditions.

“We remind drivers that there is never a place for speeding, anti-social behavior, or drug or drink driving and we’ll have police out targeting those doing the wrong thing,” Detective Station Sergeant Craft said.

“In addition, we will have officers patrolling other parts of Canberra, including the entertainment precincts due to the increased number of people out and about.”

Detective Station Sergeant Craft said with hot weather on its way, people should look after one another and know their limits.

“We know that everyone that is here for Summernats is here to have a good time. We ask that people do this responsibly and think about the consequences of their actions on not only themselves but the families around them,” he said.
