Speed enforcement operation sees more than 250 infringements issued
A speed enforcement operation over the ANZAC Day long weekend has seen more than 250 Canberra drivers issued infringement notices.
Beginning on Friday evening and running through to Monday night, ACT Policing’s Traffic Operations officers targeted speeding drivers on Canberra roads.
The operation was established to reinforce the importance of observing speed limits for all road user’s safety.
Significant incidents included:
- A female provisional licence holder detected at 141km/h in 80 km/h zone
- 33yo male driver detected at 148km/h in the 90km/h zone on William Hovel Drive, Molonglo. He was unlicensed at the time.
- Male provisional driver detected at 152km/h in the 100km/h zone Barton Highway, Hall.

In addition to the speeding incidents, 33 infringements were issued for traffic offences including driving unregistered vehicles, using mobile phones and other licence offences. Seven drivers were found to have drugs present while driving.
Detective Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said that the weekend’s results were disappointing.
“Last week we urged Canberra drivers to do the right thing and stick to the speed limits. Unfortunately our drivers didn’t heed the message and we have seen more than 230 issued with speeding infringements,” Detective Station Sergeant Boorman said.
“These penalties are completely avoidable. If you stick to the speed limit you will make your journey safer and provide a safer road experience for all road users.”
Traffic Operations officers will continue their enforcement of road safety rules – focusing on school zones as they come back into effect this week.
