Senior OMCG member charged with drug distribution

Facing court

A 27-year-old Coombs man has been charged with drug distribution offences following a long running joint investigation into the supply of drugs in the ACT.

In February of this year ACT Criminal Investigations, with assistance from the National Anti-Gangs Squad, commenced a joint investigation into the activities of a senior Comanchero criminal motorcycle gang member.

This investigation culminated yesterday (Wednesday, 22 May 2019) with the execution of search warrants in the ACT and NSW by officers from ACT Policing, the National Anti-Gangs Squad, National Canine Operations and New South Wales Police.

The 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested at his workplace and charged with eight counts of trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug (other than cannabis).

He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 23 May 2019)

Drugs seized as part of this investigation included approximately 300 grams of Methylamphetamine, 30 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of MDMA with a total estimated street value of $154,000.

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said that those seeking to distribute drugs in Canberra are up against the combined resources of ACT Policing, the AFP nationally and our partners in New South Wales Police.

“It is clear this man was part of a wider criminal network which was distributing drugs both in the ACT and in surrounding regions of NSW.

“The investigation with our partners is very much ongoing and criminal networks linked to this offender in the ACT and NSW remain our focus.

Anyone who may have any information about the sale of drugs in the ACT is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
