Quick response leads to aggravated robbery arrest

ACT Policing has apprehended an alleged offender in relation to an aggravated robbery in Belconnen.

About 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday, 30 October 2018), the alleged offender entered a store at the Belconnen Mall armed with a 15cm knife before jumping the counter and threatening staff. He then escaped with a sum of cash and two cartons of cigarettes.

The offender was arrested a short time later following a search of the local area, and transported to Belconnen Police Station. He has been charged with Aggravated Burglary and will face court today.

Detective Acting Station Sergeant Shane Scott said the arrest was the result of swift and decisive police work of officers who were patrolling in the area at the time.

“This arrest shows that if crimes are reported to police in a timely manner, along with accurate witness statements, offenders will be arrested and face the consequences of their actions,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Scott said.
