Public reports lead to arrest following tunnel graffiti attack

ACT Policing has arrested a 22-year-old Forrest man for spraying graffiti on the Acton tunnel over Parkes Way in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, 9 March).

About 1am, police received reports from motorists of two people spray-painting graffiti on the tunnel.

Police attended and located two men walking away from the scene with traces of spray paint on their clothing and hands.

One man was carrying a backpack which contained several spray cans, rubber gloves and other graffiti tools.

When questioned by police, the man became uncooperative and aggressive.

During this time, the second man fled the scene.

The 22-year-old Forrest man was taken into custody where he will be charged with property damage offences, intoxication and resisting police.

The second man will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Superintendent Paul Shakeshaft said these acts of vandalism carry a significant cost to the community and thanked the motorists who reported the incident.

“This incident proves once again how the community’s assistance is invaluable to police in continuing our swift response to crime,” Superintendent Shakeshaft said
