Police wish to speak to witnesses from 2010 robberies

ACT Policing is taking an unusual step in seeking to identify and speak with witnesses from two 2010 robberies.

In June 2010 an aggravated robbery occurred at the Red Rooster store in Wanniassa. The manager was allegedly threatened by two armed offenders and forced to hand over an amount of money.

Shortly after this incident, a member of the community called Crime Stoppers and provided information about the incident.

A second robbery occurred at the Lanyon Vikings Club in August 2010. Police believe a sum of money was stolen by three individuals.

In the days after this incident, information about a vehicle possibly linked to the robbery was provided via the Crime Stoppers website.

Police would like the people who supplied information for these two matters to come forward.

“We acknowledge that the provision of information via Crime Stoppers can be anonymous, however we are issuing a call for these people to reconsider their position and make themselves known to us,” said Detective Station Sergeant Harry Hains.

“We also understand the significant time period between when this crime occurred and now – however the people who provided this information will know they did so, and we believe they can provide vital additional information for an ongoing investigation.

“Police are thankful for any information provided by the community and respect a person’s decision to provide it anonymously. However in this case we would like these persons to consider whether they need to remain anonymous.

These people are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 quoting reference number 6191988.
