Police urge Black Opal Stakes revellers to plan ahead

ACT Policing is reminding revellers attending this Sunday’s Black Opal Stakes Day at Thoroughbred Park to plan ahead and drink responsibly.

ACT Policing will have a high-visibility presence at Thoroughbred Park and around the venue as well as a strong presence in and around Civic and other licensed venues as patrons continue their celebrations.

Targeted and random breath testing will be conducted across Canberra.

Operation Commander Station Sergeant Adrian Craft is encouraging people to enjoy the day but not at the expense of others.

“We want the Canberra public to enjoy themselves but we won’t tolerate any anti-social behaviour or those that decide to act irresponsibly by drinking and driving,” Station Sergeant Craft said.

“If you plan to drink, then drink responsibly, plan ahead and utilise public transport or organise a lift home.”

“For those who choose to take the risk to drink and drive, be prepared for the consequences.”

ACTION will be running free bus services from Thoroughbred Park to the City Bus Station between 5pm to 7:30pm. Shuttles will depart from the pickup bay outside the main entrance of the racecourse.
