Police seize two firearms from vehicle

ACT Policing has seized two rifles, ammunition, a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine and numerous items of suspected stolen property during the search of a vehicle yesterday (Tuesday 25 March).

On Friday 21 March ACT Policing seized a vehicle following information obtained that the vehicle contained firearms. Police then sought a Section 194 Crimes Act search warrant, which was executed on the vehicle at 10am yesterday.

During the search of the vehicle police located and seized a single barrel .22 gauge rifle, a percussion cap rifle, a large quantity and variety of ammunition, an amount of a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine and numerous items of property suspected to be stolen.

A 27-year-old Gowrie man will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

This is the second seizure of firearms by ACT Policing this week, following the seizure of a double barrel 12 gauge shot gun and ammunition during a separate and unrelated search warrant on Monday (24 March).

This result comes as the joint ACT Policing, ACT Government and Crime Stoppers ACT Illicit Firearms campaign nears its final month, closing on 30 April. Under the campaign, rewards of up to $5000 continue to be available for information that leads to the recovery of a firearm, or identity of anyone who may be using, keeping, or making illicit firearms.

Anyone with information regarding illicit firearms is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
