Police seeking witnesses after cowardly aggravated burglary

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after a cowardly assault of an 83-year-old man occurred during an aggravated burglary in Wanniassa earlier this morning (Monday, 20 March 2017).

Police were called to the Embling Street home around 1:20am this morning after a report that a man had forced entry to a house and assaulted an elderly man while making demands for money.

ACT Policing Criminal Investigations have taken carriage of the investigation.

The male offender can be described as between 35 and 45 years of age, around 180cm (5’11”) in height with a slim build. At the time the man was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Detective Station Sergeant Reynolds from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations said that this assault on an elderly person is a cowardly act committed against vulnerable members of our community in their own home. 

“This was an unprovoked and extremely cowardly assault on a vulnerable member of our community.

“The 83-year-old victim was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.  This type of incident is unacceptable to the community and police.  We are requesting information from the community to assist us in apprehending the person responsible for this cowardly assault.” Detective Station Sergeant Reynolds said.
