Police seek public assistance after police officer struck by vehicle

Can you help?

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance to locate a black hatchback after it failed to stop and struck an ACT Policing officer this afternoon.

About 1:30pm, the officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Tillyard Drive, Flynn. The vehicle failed to stop and struck the officer before driving away.

The officer was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by ACT Ambulance Service with minor injuries.

Superintendent Corey Heldon said that driving a vehicle at another person is a serious offence.

“Ignoring a police direction and then deliberately driving at and injuring a police officer is completely unacceptable. It goes without saying that when a person is struck by a vehicle they can be seriously injured or killed. Thankfully our officer appears to have only sustained minor injuries,” Superintendent Heldon said.

“I ask the public to help us locate this vehicle and identify the driver and passengers and by doing so make our roads safer for everybody.”

ACT Policing Collision Investigation Reconstruction team is investigating this incident.

Police are urging anyone who may have any information or dash-cam footage that could assist police to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131444. Please quote reference 6377803. Information can be provided anonymously.
