ACT Policing is seeking public assistance to locate a driver after a near-miss in Canberra this afternoon (Friday 18 January 2019).

Around 2.40pm, police attended a traffic accident on Parkes Way, after a truck rolled on its side, spilling its load of dirt and blocking the road.

A motorcycle officer at a nearby traffic diversion on William Hovel Drive identified a vehicle of interest stopped at the intersection with Bindubi Street.

The vehicle’s driver accelerated through the road block, travelling at excessive speed along William Hovel Drive toward the earlier accident.

Recognising the imminent danger to police and others at the accident site, the motorcycle officer activated lights and sirens in an effort to warn them about danger approaching.

Police and others at the accident site were alerted by the motorcycle’s approaching sirens and took evasive action to get out of the suspect vehicle’s path as it sped through.

The motorcycle officer stopped at the accident site to check on the welfare of those involved.

Anyone who has dash-cam footage or who may have seen a dark blue VT model Holden Commodore sedan with ACT registration driving dangerously in the Belconnen or City area this afternoon is urged to contact police.

Reports can be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
