Police investigate drowning at Pine Island

ACT Policing will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a 77‑year‑old man at Pine Island yesterday afternoon (Thursday, 21 February 2019).

About 2.50pm, the man failed to surface while swimming, with emergency services called a short time later.

ACT Policing general duties officers and ACT Fire & Rescue officers commenced a search of the area where the man had been swimming.  

He was subsequently located and confirmed deceased by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics, who were also in attendance.  

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

ACT Policing reminds all Canberrans and visitors to take care when swimming and watch out for each other when in and near the water.
