Police catch two drink drivers

Facing court

ACT Policing has arrested two men for drink driving and additional driving offences overnight.

The first driver, a 31-year-old Evatt man, was apprehended about 10.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 1 July 2020) after police observed a silver Ford station wagon travelling at speeds in excess of 120km/h in Maribyrnong Avenue, Kaleen which has a speed limit of 60km/h.

Subsequent police checks revealed the vehicle was unregistered and the driver’s licence had been disqualified. A breath test revealed the man had a blood alcohol reading of 0.077.

He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on charges of driving while disqualified, drink driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and breach of good behaviour obligations.

The second man, a 29-year-old Macquarie man was arrested after police responded to reports of a disturbance in Reid about 5am today. The man allegedly admitted he did not have a licence and when subjected to breath analysis at City Police Station, a result of 0.171 was recorded.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date, charged with driving while disqualified and drink driving.
