Police appeal to author to come forward

Following new information, ACT Policing has issued a fresh call for information on Canberran Megan Mulquiney ahead the 34th anniversary of her disappearance.

An unexplained note in a copy of a magazine has sparked fresh calls for information about missing Canberra teenager Megan Mulquiney.

Police are trying to locate the person who wrote the name ‘Inge Quitt’ under a photo of Megan which appeared in the September 2018 edition of The Australian Women’s Weekly.

In addition to the name, the person has underlined a number of words in the magazine which was left at Clare Holland House.

Police have spoken to Mrs Quitt, well known seamstress and former Queanbeyan resident, and do not believe she wrote her own name or was in any way involved in the disappearance of Megan Mulquiney. However officers would like to speak to the person who made the notes to understand whether there’s any significance.

Megan, then aged 17-years-old, was last seen standing outside Woden Plaza about 12:30pm on Saturday 28 July 1984. An extensive investigation by police spanning 34 years has failed to reveal her movements or location after this time.

In 2009 an inquest into Megan’s disappearance determined it extremely likely she met with foul play and was murdered by a person, or persons unknown. The place, manner and cause of Megan’s death remain unknown.

Police renewed calls for information in July 2018, saying investigators would accept any information, and explore all lines of enquiry.

Anyone with information about the magazine or Megan’s disappearance is urged to contact Detective Senior Constable Emma Beere and Senior Constable Patrick O’Brien via the dedicated mobile number 0457 844 917.
