New look ACT Policing patrol fleet

ACT Policing today unveiled its new general duties patrol cars that have started rolling-out on the streets of Canberra.

After an extensive process which saw many vehicle makes and models assessed under guidelines issued by the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency, the Subaru Liberty was chosen as the vehicle best suited to ACT Policing’s patrol needs.

Superintendent Jason Kennedy says to complement the introduction of a new type of police vehicle, ACT Policing has chosen new police decal markings for the fleet.

“These cars have a new decal design which will make our vehicles more readily distinguishable as police vehicles,” said Superintendent Kennedy.

“Our decal design is more consistent with police vehicles in other jurisdictions, which will help both Canberra locals and visitors to the ACT recognise them more quickly.

“The traditional checkered pattern that people associate with police vehicles, combined with high-visibility yellow stripes and new red and blue coloured light bars on the roof, make them more conspicuous. They certainly stand out, whether in traffic or stopped on the roadside.
