Molonglo residents encouraged to join police for a Coffee with a Cop

Molonglo residents encouraged to join police for a Coffee with a Cop.

ACT Policing will join members of the Molonglo Valley community this week for Canberra’s latest Coffee with a Cop event.

Coffee with a Cop provides the opportunity for community members to build relationships with their local police officers, discuss what’s going on in their neighbourhood, ask questions they may have about the law or policing, or just have a chat about what’s on their mind.

The Molonglo event follows a successful trial event in Lyneham in August, which was received positively by the community.

Morning Dew at the Denman Village Shops, Molonglo Valley has kindly partnered with ACT Policing to host the Coffee with a Cop event from 8am -10am this Friday (13 December, 2019).

Officers from Woden Police Station and ACT Policing’s Community Safety team will be available to speak to members of the local community about a range of topics.

Officer in Charge of Woden Police Station, Detective Acting Station Sergeant Simon Coady said he was looking forward to engaging with members of the Mologlo community.

Coffee with a Cop enables police to engage with the public in a stress-free environment in order to build trust and help break down potential barriers in communication,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Coady said.

“As a new and rapidly expanding area of Canberra, Molonglo presents unique challenges and we wanted to engage directly with the people of the Molonglo Valley about potential issues facing the community.

“I would like to thank Morning Dew for supporting ACT Policing with this important and worthwhile initiative.

“I’d also encourage anyone who has any questions about the law, police or policing to come down to Morning Dew on Friday morning, grab a free coffee and have a Coffee with a Cop.”

Following the successful trial, ACT Policing plans to hold a Coffee with a Cop event in all patrol zones across Canberra in 2020.
