Man from Red Hill being taken into custody

ACT Policing has arrested a 30-year-old man from Red Hill following a shoplifting incident in Gungahlin on Tuesday (4 March).

About 3.35pm, police attended Gungahlin Bus Interchange following a report from a staff member of the Reject Shop claiming that a male had left the store with a trolley full of items and made no attempt to pay for them.

The staff member identified the alleged offender to police on Ernest Cavanagh Street. The man then fled in a northerly direction crossing Anthony Rolfe Avenue.

A short time later, the male was seen scaling the fence into the joint Emergency Services Centre, which includes the Gungahlin Police Station, where he then attempted to hide. He was apprehended by police a short time later.

The man will be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date to face a charge of theft.
