Man to face court over Red Hill burglaries

Police yesterday (Wednesday, 26 August 2020) arrested a 28-year-old Spence man in connection with two burglaries in Red Hill.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today to face a range of charges including firearm and burglary offences.

ACT Policing will allege the man entered a home in red Hill about 7.15am yesterday.

The man took a number of items from the home and attempted to steal a black Mercedes before fleeing the scene on foot after being confronted by the car’s owner.

About 8.40am police received a further report of a man in the backyard of a nearby residence.

Officers pursued the man on foot before arresting him.  During the arrest it was discovered the man was carrying a small replica pistol.

The man will face court charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Aggravated burglary – intent to commit theft (two counts)
  • Going equipped for theft
  • Unlawful possession of stolen property
  • Breach of good behaviour obligation

Police will oppose bail.
