Man to face court over arson and weapons offences

A 48-year-old Chisholm man will face court today charged with arson and weapons offences.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, 21 November 2019), police attended reports of a disturbance at a house on Proctor Street, Chisholm.

Police spoke with witnesses, who said the alleged offender was alone inside the house armed with a machete. While police attempted to speak to the man, they heard an explosion and subsequently noticed the garage of the house had been set on fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue members attended and extinguished the fire, which destroyed the garage. A subsequent search of the house found no people inside.

A short time later, the alleged offender was located at the nearby Chisholm cricket oval. He was arrested and has been charged with arson, possess offensive weapon and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
